OK, question time: Who can tell me what is a Raclette grill?
Deathly silence, the sounds of owls hooting in the distance, and I am in the middle of the sun-swept audience in Southern California.
A Raclette grill is a small low-temperature grill with two layers and is designed to be used as a get-together around the table experience. It started in France and Switzerland as a solution for Fondue parties.
The Raclette grill is usually a circular grill with two separate layers of cast iron that has four sections on each layer, one section per diner. The lower level is for cheese, the Fondue layer, and the upper layer is for the veggies, bread, or meat, or anything you use to dip into the molten cheese on the first layer.
Oh, and did I forget to state that Raclette is a category of semi-hard cheese made for melting? Well, it is.
Genius? Yes, it is.
Now, imagine having a nice Raclette grill in your kitchen, and maybe even two, after all, parties are usually more than four. Even if you only want a quiet night with some Fondue, wine, and whatever takes your fancy to dip, you can, and easily so with a Raclette Grill.
Raclette grills now come with two to eight configurations, where the two layers are split for a different number of guests, and the dimensions are sized for different quantities.
The best Raclette grills are made of cast iron, but you will also find Stone and lightweight cast-aluminum models too. Some will come with a ceramic coating that helps with cleaning.
There are many models on the market, what I present to you are the five best based on value for money which includes the materials used, the performance of the product, and the overall experience level when using them.

A lightweight classic Raclette that offers a lighter version to the cast iron model. Now it’s down to decision time, which do you prefer?
How to use a Raclette Grill
A Raclette grill is a heating plate for cheese, and it comes in two models, cast iron, and cast aluminum. Both have different heating features, but both deliver the same product. The cast-iron models are sturdier and heavier and retain the heat for longer, while the cast aluminum models are lighter and are faster to heat up and cool faster down.
Before starting the grill, wash all the cooking surfaces and accessories and thoroughly dry them.
Place the surfaces in their positions, and turn the grill power switch on.
For the cast, iron surfaces pre-heat for 15 minutes at the highest setting, and cast aluminum surfaces preheat for 8-10 minutes.
Based on your specific model, once the plate has been pre-heated at the maximum temperature, turn it down to the desired cooking level based on the manufacturer’s instructions for the food you want to cook.
Once you have finished eating, you need to let the unit cool down completely, after which you remove all the parts and accessories and wash them with a mild detergent and not submerge. You never use rough or coarse cleaning implements, only a soft sponge or cloth with a mild detergent, and only when the parts are cold to touch.
